Save The Boston Four

Dear Incider reader, your friendly comrades at Boston United need your help and we know you are poised like a coiled cobra, ready to leap to their aid. So The Incider today launches a campaign to win back the four crucial league points so cruelly stolen from the Division Three newcomers by the Football Association.

As you will be aware, they suffered a devastating hammer blow to their first season in the league when a three-man F.A. disciplinary commission inexplicably deducted the points from their total before the new season had even got underway. The club admitted six counts of supplying false information on the salaries of six players during the 2001/2 season. Hardly the crime of the century, we think you’ll agree. Yet the Lincolnshire side was also fined £100,000 and ordered to pay the maximum £3,000 costs following the hearing in July.

We know that every Bristol City supporter with a sense of fair play and balance will be outraged by such a heavy-handed, overly-severe punishment against a small club doing its best to survive in a vicious world. We ourselves are frankly shocked by their shoddy treatment and punishment which clearly far exceeds the severity of their crimes.

Now the good news. We have been in contact with our friends at Boston United and they are counting on our help to reverse this unjust decision, which could threaten their very battle to stay in the league. Coincidentally, they currently happen to be in a dogfight for league survival with Bristol Rovers, though we feel sure this will not in any way sway your opinion. But with Boston hampered by their four point deduction, it is hardly a level playing field and the risk that the Gas could stay up at their expense is very real. The Gas went into 2003 just two points behind them with a game in hand. We ask you, how can that be right when Boston have earned six more points than their sorry rivals? Hopefully we can stop this nightmare scenario from ever happening.

Right now, you are doubtless sat in front of your screen frantically nodding your head in agreement with us and asking: “But what can I do? I am but one individual.”

Fear not, for The Incider has produced a petition so YOU can help send the Gas down. Go on. Y’know you want to. Simply print it out and go around your friends explaining the cruel plight facing the minnows (that’s Boston, not the Gas) and asking them to show their solidarity by adding their names to your list. Once you have filled the petition, simply slap it in and envelope and send it to the F.A. at the address listed at the bottom. You can complete as many copies as you want, though please be sensitive when approaching Gasheads. After all, they have enough on their plate to deal with at the moment, and they might have trouble spelling their names. They might also object to giving their addresses – after all, if you were a Gashead would YOU want anyone to know where you lived?

But hopefully fan pressure will avail. Together, we can get this cruel miscarriage of justice overturned and give Boston a helping hand in their battle to send Rovers down. Sorry, I mean in their own battle to survive.
