Danny Stunned As Coach Leaves City

Danny Wilson has been rocked by the sudden departure of a top coach from Bristol City just hours before an away game at Brentford. Wilson, who had not sanctioned the departure, was said to be enraged by the decision.

The Fraser Eagle Deluxe with air-conditioning, on board video, toilet and drinks facilities, left Ashton Gate last Tuesday at approximately 2:55 p.m., fully five minutes before it's agreed departure time, leaving the Ashton Gate supremo fuming.

Wilson - a stickler for time-keeping - was visibly angered by the driver's decision to leave the Ashton Gate car park without consulting him as to whether he was ready or not, and the repercussions from this flagrant abuse of the manager's authority could well be far-reaching.

One onlooker described the moment the coach left : "Danny wasn't sitting down or anything. He certainly hadn't had time to secure his lap belt and was clearly struggling to keep his feet as the coach pulled away." said Geoffrey Stoutman, a City fan who has watched the team leave for away games for the last 27 seasons. He continued: "I can't remember seeing anything like it. There was an incident on the 11th November 1978, when Gerry Gow's hairdryer hadn't been stored correctly in the overhead luggage compartment prior to a trip to Bolton, but I don't think even that is comparable with today's incident."

Future guidelines to prevent a recurrence of this incident are already being considered as the dust begins to settle around Bristol City Football Club. It is understood that the driver's clock is to be disabled in the cabin area of the coach, and Danny will be allocated the job of pressing the red button that closes the hydraulic door in an effort to prevent a recurrence of Tuesday's episode.

Bert Crump, the driver of the coach, was unavailable for comment last night. But it is believed that he will be dealt with by an internal disciplinary panel made up of four old men in flat hats. Probably. Whether or not Bert, a coach driver of some 32 years, will ever drive City to away games in the future is open to question. But one thing that is certain is that if he does, it will be when Danny Wilson tells him, and not a moment before.
