The Moment of Truth

Well, this is it folks. This is the season.

For three seasons we have been stabilising and building. For three years the fans have, on the whole, been patient and understanding as the club dragged itself off its knees and put itself back in contention.

Every year we have seen improvement under Danny. But now is the time. The board have done their bit. Despite financial hardship, they have dusted off the mothballs, dipped into their wallets and ponied up for two new players. And they have upped The Doc's salary to keep him at The Gate when many of us thought he had played his last game for us. It is now time for Danny to earn his money and repay the faith of the fans and the board after being handed a costly new three year contract.

This time there can be no excuses. It is do or die time for Danny Wilson - the moment of truth. Make no mistake. This is his squad. These are his players, signed by him or brought up through the youth system under his control and nurtured in the first team by him.

Despite being skint, the board have splashed out for Lee Peacock, Mike Stowell, Lee Matthews, Christian Roberts and Tony Butler. This closed summer we have added Lee Miller and Luke Wilkshire, two exciting players who ooze potential. But make no mistake it is this season that they must deliver.

It is Danny who has shaped this team. Aaron Brown is here because the board stood by him when he insisted on rejecting a £500k bid at a time when it would have come in handy. It is Danny who has frozen out Simon Clist and Marvin Brown for his own reasons. It is Danny who has brought on Phillips, Hill, Amankwaah, Coles, Lita et al. This is Danny's squad and he will stand and fall by it.

But be under no illusion, Danny. This season the fans expect promotion and if you fail to deliver there will be no-one else to place the blame on. You have been given everything a Division Two manager could expect. Money, support and most importantly time.

We have seen improvement season upon season and this year only one thing will do. Promotion. If are in Division One by the end of business on May 30 then you will be a hero. If not, then quite simply you will have failed and should pack your bags to let someone else do the job.

So is Danny hero or villain, genius or joke, Saviour or Satan? We will know in 296 days.

It's showtime.
